The memorial is located at the Vaganovsky descent to Lake Ladoga, where the legendary ice track called the "Road of Life" began. It was from this place that the convoys (those famous "polutorki") traveled 30 km across the ice to the eastern shore.
Two reinforced concrete arches symbolize the ring of the blockade, and the gap between them is the Road of Life. On the base of the monument, car tracks can be seen leading to Lake Ladoga, which, risking daily, brought salvation to the besieged city.
